Interesting side effect. This driver (last link) also lets the USB charge the env3, where without it there was no sw, and no charge.
Neat!
If you have your mp3 files on your PC you can transfer them to the LG enV3 phone without using the Rhapsody software or downloading and installing a USB driver. Here is how on a PC with Win XP.
Insert Micro SD card in phone and format with memory menu.
Leave phone on.
Connect enV3 to PC with the USB cable (included in box).
Window opens up “New hardware found”. Close it.
On front screen of phone a menu appears “Music” or “Data”.
Select “Music” for mp3 files.
Window opens on PC screen titled “Portable Device”.
Select “Open device to view files using Windows Explorer”.
Window opens containing one item “External Memory”. This is your Micro SD memory card folder. Select it.
Blank window opens. Drag mp3 files from PC to this window.
When transfer complete disconnect phone from PC.
Open music menu on phone and your files will be listed ready to play.
PS. The USB cable also charged my phone.
What William says is true. I experienced the same thing with my env3 on a windows XP based PC.
Wondering if anyone knows how to manipulate images on the env3 by way of PC usb link? I would like to DL my images to my comp without having to message them to my email. I think BitPim could do it from what I hear, but that they haven’t made a workaround for the env3 yet…
I’ve found with my env3, I can save my pictures and videos to my microSD card, and then pop the card out of my phone, put it into a microSD to SD adapter, and simply plug it into my laptop. The files will then be stored in several folders, and should be completely readable. I’ve not had any luck with using my USB cable to download pictures out of my phone, though.
Newer USB drivers are available from the LG website. Go here: http://www.lge.com/us/mobile-phones/LG-VX9200-Blue.jsp then select the Resources tab. Version 4.9.4 is available there, compared to version 4.8.1 that is on this site. I do not know what the difference is.
I downloaded the usb driver, connected my LG, How do I upload my pictures? Help I’m Stuck
Yes K, I have the same problem, I can’t figure out how to download my pics without having to purchase a sd adapter.
Darn! My Env3 didnt COME with a USB to PC cable! Anybody else have this issue? I didnt even actually need cable until a few months after I bought phone (or notice it was MISSING), so I guess its too late to complain to them now. Figures. Just when I found some really kool ringtones that I can upload to my MP3 player.
Nope, didnt work. I fooled with it for over an hour to no avail. I plugged my Env3 (maroon) into USB port. Then selected “Music” to sync, (and cell brings a “SYNC MUSIC, V CAST MOBILE PHONE EXTERNAL MEMORY’ prompt)- but NO popup on PC indicating any portable devices. This is just ridiculous. Electronics should be more USER FRIENDLY! I tried to get around it in my Media player too- but no luck.
In response to “Darn! My Env3 didnt COME with a USB to PC cable!” Your power cord is your USB cable. Simply remove the cable from the adapter that plugs into the electrical outlet. I don’t have any answers about uploading pics yet. I just logged on to find the answers.
Okay, anyone with this problem? Computer reconizes phone as LGE CDMA USB Device and V Cast Media Manager searches and finds my phone. Everything is set to transfer music and pics and when I sync music, that is when the computer finds new hardware as a MTP Device and V Cast can no longer find my phone. After hours of tech support with Verizon, they say it’s a driver problem. Okay so I download the driver but when it starts to install…I get a Component Transfer Error. All I want is download my music. Does anyone have a suggestion?
just connect your env3 to your computer and do not do anything just exit out of the window that says to download it and got to my computer and you will see your phone as a portable device
This is not true. In setting and tools on the phone there is a section called USB mass storage device. When you click that it says its connected but windows does NOT recognize it. I already got the latest drivers from LG website as posted above. Stupid things like this show how lazy companies are. Why wouldn’t they want you to have this kind of access……
Maybe because it forces most people to buy from them through get it now. Thats what I think. I had great success with bitpim, this software worked great on my chocolate 2. Now with the ENV3 I thought it would be much more streamlined. Thanks for nothing LG.
I’ll just use my microSD to SD card and live with it. Just plain stupid if you ask me. Why even include a USB….Why.

After about three hours of tinkering I got it to work with windows 7 the right way As trulefty states. You will need 4.9.4 version And use the Menu/settings and tools/usb mass storage device. Let windows do its thing and I had to exit mass storage and reenter twice to make it work. But it does work and I renig anything I had previously stated. It does in fact work with WIN7.
A now Happy Verizon customer.

You can transfer playlists with Winamp Pro or Windows Media Player.
interesting post. I hope you continue writing such informative stuff
i bought my env3 at a verizon store, and it came with a usb charger cable. just wondering, if i leave it plugged in for ten hours (or any time more than it needs), will it overcharge?
I’m getting the same “Component Transfer Error” that Judith is getting.
I am trying to update software on my env3 but the updater just keeps updating usb driver. Then when i connect my phone and go to software update check new it says no new software update available. My software now is Vo3 so i know it needs an update! Its driving me crazy because my phone is having problems (shutting off randomly, pics & music disappearing then reappearing…!!! Can anyone help me figure this out? I’m sure i’m just missing something dumb. Please & Thank you!!!!
GRRRRRRRR, I just want to upload my pictures from my EnV3 to my puter. I loaded all the drivers, ect but I can’t figure out how to sync the pics to my pc. I have windows 7! Anyone having (or had) this issue???? If you had it, have you figured out how to do it yet?

You know, I just downloaded this driver. With the money these people make; you’d think they could afford to provide a service that wasn’t 100% crap. I can’t upload a single thing from my phone, why did they even put a USB cable on the damn thing? It serves no use.
I think all these LG “experts” need to pull their heads out of their asses.
I also have Windows 7 and I am having a similar issue when prompted to connect my Env Touch…even after successful download and verification of the usb driver, every time you connect the phone via usb cable, the updater posts a message warning you to disconnect the device in order to prevent the USB Driver from downloading incorrectly. Either way, the software updater is inaccessible whether you choose to re-download the driver or not.
I cannot connect my device to my comuter. I have spent the last 2 hours trying and I have read over tons of articles and nothing seems to work. All i am trying to accomplish is removing pictures from the micro sd card.

to use the usb cable and env3 on win xp and win7, on env3 in settings and tools menu choose “ask on plug”. make sure you have the latest LG 4.9.4 (above linked)) driver installed http://www.lge.com/us/products/documents/LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
when you plug in the usb from env3 it will then prompt you to chooses music or data. if you choose music the memory card on env3 will appear as an external drive in “my computer”
if you choose data, then you also need to go into the settings and tools menu on env3 and choose #2 tools then #9 usb mass storage it will then show connecting on phone and the phone memory card will then appear in “my computer”
however this is for music or photos directly stored on the external card.
I don’t know how to directly access the internal memory which holds the my pictures folder of pics you take yourself on the phone. I know you can make your email address be a contact and “forward” any pictures/messages texted to you. Also you can choose new message, then picture message, choose your email address as the recipient, then go to picture field and the left button option is “my pics” you can choose from those stored on your phone.
hope this helps…
I just got the Env3…which is also known as the ellipse, on the network I am on. When I move my ringtones that I downloaded, it puts them in my music folder. And, once they are there, I can’t move them to my sounds, therefore unable to use them as ringtones. Can someone please help me??
Yay! That worked like a charm, had been trying forever to transfer pics from my phone card to my PC. Thank you, Pat!
Thanks for the great info guys! My computer does have a place to put my card, AWESOME!!
easiest way to transfer the photos from your phone to computer if you DON’T have a micro SD is to BLUETOOTH them. As long as your computer has this capability then you can just sync the two devices and transfer away.
What i did to get my pics from phone to computer was go to Wal Mart they sell a little bluetooth plug that i keep in the back of my computer it didnt cost much. Now the whole family with four different kinds of phones can send pics from their phone directly to the computer and from the computer to their phone.

This is my Excerpt…
I have tried everything on here to get my pictures onto my computer that is windows 7. My phone shows up when I choose music but there’s nothing on it but it shows the memory is almost full. when I choose data it doesn’t show up and when I do the USB mass storage it doesn’t connect but says card not inserted, which there isn’t one. Do I have to had the SD card or is there a way to do it without the card and without having to do a message? I also installed that 9.4.9 version of whatever thing I apparently need. Still nothing, I’ve been trying over 2 hours and am getting frustrated. Please help.
Thanks Pat. Your steps worked fine on XP. Pity that the phone is not smart enough to do this going thru menus to turn this on each time. I also noticed that when in USB mode that the phone shuts off the wireless. Oh well.
Pat, you are a genius! That worked on my new LG Octane phone as well. I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out, and you were right on the mark. Thanks!
PAT you are the man you solved my problem in fact i think you solved most ppls problems, now as to get the ones off your internal memory. I would suggest you save the ones from you external memory to your computer then you can go into your phone and in the picutres menu when you pull up you pics. I would delete all the ones that are saved on the external memory card, THEN transfer the internal memory ones to the external memory card. All that is done from the phone itself. Once you have done this, then rinse and repeat pats suggestion listed above!!! That together should solve most ppls problems.
sorry about the spelling and bad punctuation. was hurried!
It’s nice to find a good blog post. I enjoy lots of the articles on your web site.
i have a playlist on my system and i want to transfer it on my phone so can i transfer it ?
Glad to be one of several visitants on this awe inspiring web site : D.
I updated to driver version 4.9.4, and it doesn’t help. After the install, when I attach my enV3 to my XP box I get an error stating that the device may not be recognized or something like that, and then when I push “end” on the phone to get out of music transfer mode the phone displays a connection error. When in music player mode, the removable storage device’s device name appears as a bunch of small boxes; I can change the device name in Windows, but as soon as I disconnect and then reconnect the phone it goes back to that buggy name. I can sync with Outlook after getting out of music player mode, although the calendar synchronzation has goofed up my calendar enough times that I’ve given up on it and switched it off. I find the enV3 calendar utterly unusable, with its hour switching and its replacement of my marked up calendar events in Outlook with unmarked, uncategorized substitutes. The contacts synchronization works fine, mostly. Overall, what a huge disappointment this phone is as a synchronizing solution. I’ve been a happy LG customer for many years, but I don’t think I could buy another LG product after this–not only because of the software dysfunction, but compounded by LG tech support’s absolute denial that there is any problem on their end (“blame Microsoft” and user error, they say).
One other stupid thing with LG’s calendar sync: Any alarms you’ve set automatically are associated on the phone with a very annoying “short beeps” alert. There is no way to override this or make an alternative default alert sound selection. LG expects users to suffer with the poor choice of alert sounds they’ve programmed as the default, or else to go through their calendars, one event at a time, presumably after each synchronization again, certainly after adding any new single or repeating event, and to change the tone manually with the many steps that involves. Unbelievable.
Ok. I’m having a serious problem with mine too. My computer brings up this thing to download hardware but that comes up with nothing and when i look at my computer it not even being recognized. I’ve tried a couple different drivers with no success. I’m just asking if anyone knows what i could do just to get a couple of songs on my phone…
This info has helped a lot. My Envy 2 downloaded pics easily, the Envy 3 has been a pain. The info here worked tho… the missing link for me was that after I told it the correct USB Sync/Modem option, I didn’t know I had to end out of there, go to
Settings & Tools
Tools
USB Storage
Once I did that it allows me to download the pics from to either my XP or W7 machine via Windows Explorer. Yay.
THANK YOU for the driver file. I searched for A WEEK. Charger worked fine on my old computer; new computer would not recognize it. Tried installing driver(s) from other sites. No luck. From your link it was 60 seconds flat and it now works just fine. I will be faxing you a free beer.
my screen is broken so i can’t do anything. the driver does not work, and i assume that is because i have to get into the flip to set the usb driver? UGH! i had some photos that i didn’t save onto the sd card and now they are stuck in my phone. any suggestions how to get them without a screen? will the bluetooth thing work?
know what works? Take the damn card out of the phone, stick it in a micro usb reader and plug it in directly to your cpu…this pluggiing the phone in does nothing for me aside from a charge and confusing my machines. Unable to establish communication
Downlaoded all the drivers..rebooted…made a wish…all that..& nothing! Cheers!
Personally don’t think it is laziness as Frankie said in first post. I do believe it is a way for Verizon to somewhat justifiably charge data rates should you get it up and running w/o realizing you are about to incur relatively steep costs. If it were cingular (they still around?) who is unwilling to negotiate even when the charge happened due to very poor design. I had that issue over a 400/USD charge that occurred while driving across Nevada. I knew there was only roaming or other carriers to access so my phone sat on passenger seat. A book or something hit the call button and a started billing until dam battery went dead. One more little thing showing how we the lil ppl get skewed by crafty lawyers and big biz.
How can I make a usb charger using a 9-volt battery?
I downloaded the driver and sync`d for data now how do I connect to the internet using my EnV3 as a modem (it is recognized as a modem on my computer)
I HAD NO PROBS TRANSFERING FILES TO SD CARD INSERTED INTO LG VX9200 WITH XP. ACCESSED CARD THROUGH USB MASS STORAGE. AUTO RUN AND MY COMP FOUND CARD. TRANSFERED 1G EACH OF MUSIC AND PICS.WORKS FINE. HAVEN’T TRIED TO REMOVE THEM YET, BUT ANTIICIPATE NO PROBS. ALSO HAVEN’T TRIED VIDS YET. SKEPTICAL, BUT WHO KNOWS MAYBE I’LL GET LUCKY. HAVEN’T EXPERIENCED THE LUXURY OF 7 OR VISTA YET. CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR THAT. I EXPECT A WHOLE NEW BALL GAME, OR MORE LIKLY CAN OF WORMS.
